Koinobori, meaning "carp flag" or "carp streamer" in Japanese, refers to the large, colorful carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan during Children's Day (Kodomo no Hi), which falls on May 5th. They symbolize wishes for children to grow up strong, healthy, and courageous, much like the carp that can swim upstream against the current.
