Zodiac Beads for Aquarius

Zodiac Beads for Aquarius

After studying astrology with Alice Inoue years ago, talking about signs became one of my favorite ways to connect with customers. It's a fun starting point for conversation — and a surprisingly useful guide when you're designing jewelry for someone.

Aquarius is the 11th sign of the zodiac, governing the period from about January 20 to February 18. The symbol is the water bearer — imagine all that water washing away negativity and the past, carrying optimism for the future. Despite the water imagery, Aquarius is actually an air sign, which gives these folks their inventive, freedom-loving, socially conscious energy.

At their best, Aquarians are humanitarian, progressive, creative, and deeply concerned with other people's welfare. They're also famously stubborn — once an Aquarian's mind is made up, good luck changing it.

My dad is an Aquarius, and the one thing that distinctly stands out about him is that I've never heard him speak poorly or negatively about anyone. Ever. That tracks with the Aquarian nature — socially gifted, positive, focused on the bigger picture rather than petty complaints.

Designing Jewelry for an Aquarius

When I design for an Aquarius, I'm thinking about that duality — water imagery with air element energy, humanitarian warmth with stubborn independence. Here's how that plays out:

  • Fish symbol or water charm — the first thing that comes to mind. It connects to the water bearer symbol and that sense of refreshing renewal.
  • Water colors — blues, aquas, and black. Think feng shui water element. These are Aquarius colors through and through.
  • Unexpected color combos — appeal to the air nature of Aquarius by breaking the rules a little. A striking pop of one bold color against a quiet palette. These are people who appreciate the unconventional.
  • Smoky quartz — to balance the airy element with grounding energy. Every air sign benefits from something that keeps them tethered.
  • Aquamarine, larimar, or amazonite — beautiful blue stones for the water element. Larimar especially has a calming, go-with-the-flow quality that suits Aquarius well.
  • Black tourmaline, black agate, or black spinel — anything black provides grounding and stability to balance the Aquarian tendency toward scattered, big-picture thinking.

To calm the busy mind of this air element, water-bearing sign, try combining aquamarine and turquoise — one transparent, one opaque, in very similar shades. The pairing is stunning and deeply soothing.

Aquarius Gemstones

Aquarius spans January and February, so there are birthstones from both months:

  • Garnet — the January birthstone. Deep, rich, and grounding. A warm counterpoint to all that cool blue energy.
  • Amethyst — the February birthstone and one of the best overall stones for Aquarius. Enhances clarity and inner peace, helping balance that inventive energy with emotional stability.
  • Aquamarine — considered the Aquarius power stone. Supports clarity, calm, and compassion — all things an Aquarian values.
  • Opal — traditionally a lucky stone for Aquarius. The play of color inside an opal mirrors the Aquarian love of the unexpected.

Other stones to consider: blue topaz, lapis lazuli, sapphire, kyanite, and any clear blue stone. Silver is also traditionally associated with Aquarius — both as a setting metal and a natural neutralizer of negative energy.

Colors and Element

Element: Air

Colors: Blue, blue-green, grey, black — and anything that defies easy categorization. Aquarians are drawn to unconventional color combinations, the kind of shades that don't have a name. That's the Aquarian aesthetic in a nutshell.

If you're making a piece for the Aquarius in your life — or for yourself — lean into the blues and the unconventional. Come by the store and we'll help you find the perfect stones to match that water-bearer energy.
