Gemstone Energy for the Snake

The Year of the Wood Snake: Embracing Transformation, Wisdom, and Renewal

The Chinese Zodiac welcomes the Year of the Snake in 2025—a cycle brimming with transformation, wisdom, and renewal. The Snake is revered for its mystery, intuition, and ability to shed old skin, reminding us that growth comes from release and rebirth. Across cultures, the serpent has been seen as both healer and guardian—appearing in ancient myths, alchemical symbols, and the caduceus of medicine as a mark of renewal and transformation.

To honor this powerful year, I created a necklace inspired by the winding, sinuous energy of the Snake. At first, though, it wasn’t meant for anyone else—it was for me.

A Personal Talisman for Renewal

When I designed this piece, I was bracing myself for another year that might bring challenges, stress, and the need to pivot when I had little energy left. I wanted something tangible to remind me of rebirth and renewal—of the Snake’s gift to shed the past and move forward lighter, clearer, and stronger.

I’ve worn this necklace for the past six months, and it’s become a favorite. The colors feel refreshing every time I put it on—the bright greens of peridot and gaspeite play against the earthy browns of boulder opal, while the fiery hessonite garnet adds a striking burst of energy. Together they create balance: grounding yet uplifting, calming yet bold.

The truth is, the past few years have been challenging—recovering from COVID, closing our physical store for a time, reducing staff to just the two of us and a few volunteers, and carrying the weight of loans while consumer habits shifted. Through it all, we’ve held onto what we believe: that BEADing matters. It’s never just been about beads. It’s about mindfulness, creativity, confidence, community, and joy. These tiny pieces of beauty remind us that even in hard times, we can still build connection—bead by bead.

This necklace grew from that truth: a lifeline, a reminder that renewal is always possible, even when energy runs low.

Lucky Colors of the Snake Year

Each zodiac year carries colors tied to its element. The 2025 Snake is paired with Wood energy, which is all about growth and vitality.

  • Green – renewal, vitality, creativity.
  • Brown/Earth Tones – grounding, stability, balance.
  • Fire Colors (red, orange, purple) – courage, passion, transformation.
  • Metal & Water Colors (white, gold, blue, black) – clarity, resourcefulness, insight.

Incorporating these colors into your jewelry or wardrobe is a beautiful way to align yourself with the Snake year’s energy. For more inspiration, check out our collection of green gemstones, earth-toned beads.

Sacred Stones for Transformation

Beyond the stones in my necklace, many gems align beautifully with the Snake’s themes of wisdom, healing, and resilience:

  • Jade – tranquility, harmony, growth.
  • Garnet – passion, courage, vitality.
  • Smoky Quartz – grounding, protection, stress relief.
  • Peridot – optimism, prosperity, renewal.
  • Fossilized Wood & Jet – transformation, patience, turning challenges into strength.
  • Pearls – beauty born from adversity, resilience, wisdom.

These can be worn as daily talismans or woven into your jewelry designs as reminders of growth and self-trust.

Snake-Themed Gemstones in My Necklace

The necklace begins with a diamond-shaped Peridot bead for the Snake’s head and tapers to Gaspeite and Chrysoberyl accents as the tail. The flow of gems creates a winding, serpentine movement. Each stone adds its voice:

Mantra for Transformation

The Snake is patient, wise, and unafraid to grow by letting go. A simple affirmation for the months ahead:

“Like a snake, I shed what no longer serves me and step into my power renewed and unafraid.”

Say it while you bead, when you wear your jewelry, or whenever you need to center yourself.

Moving Forward with Snake Energy

We are now in the heart of the Year of the Snake. It’s a perfect moment to check in: what are you ready to release, and what do you want to grow? Whether you bead for joy, for healing, or for connection, let this year remind you that every piece you create can hold intention.

As you design, take risks. Try new color combinations, add stones you’ve never used before, or make something that feels powerful when you wear it. Beading can be a gentle practice of transformation—each piece a message of who you are becoming.

The Snake whispers: embrace mystery, trust your intuition, and move with quiet confidence. May every bead you string remind you of your strength and your renewal.

Note from me (Jamie)

This necklace began as a way to carry myself through what felt like another year of challenges and pivots when I was running on empty. What I’ve learned—through beads, through community, and through each shed layer—is that resilience doesn’t have to mean pushing harder. I've conditioned myself to push hard thinking that's how we made it to 28 years in the business, but just recently I've spent more time softening that view and my heart. Sometimes it’s simply about remembering what I love, doing it with people who bring us joy, and letting that be enough to move me forward.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. May the rest of your Year of the Snake be filled with courage, creativity, and quiet renewal.
