This vivid green gem stopped us in our tracks the first time we saw it. That's a garnet? It felt like finding out your quiet neighbor secretly plays in a rock band. Same family, completely different energy.
What Makes Tsavorite Special
Tsavorite is a variety of grossular garnet, found primarily in East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania). It gets its electric green color from traces of vanadium and chromium — the same elements that give emeralds their famous hue.
But here's what makes tsavorite stand out:
- No treatments needed — Unlike many emeralds, tsavorite is naturally vivid. What you see is what nature made.
- Excellent durability — With a hardness of 7-7.5, it's perfect for everyday jewelry.
- Rare and getting rarer — The mines produce limited quantities, making each piece genuinely special.
A Stone We Savor
We've carried tsavorite for years — decades, actually. And here's the honest truth: it's gotten harder to source with each passing year. Finding quality pieces with even color and good clarity? Nearly impossible now.
Most of what we have in stock was purchased over 20 years ago. And because tsavorite remains relatively unknown outside of gemstone circles, it's sold ever so slowly... leaving it here for us to enjoy and savor.
We have no complaints about that.
