Make your own forever lei — sandalwood beads and hand-carved mother-of-pearl pikake buds on a simple strung necklace you can wear every day.

Hoʻonani (hoh-oh-NAH-nee) means to adorn, beautify, honor, or praise in Hawaiian. That's what this necklace is — you're literally adorning yourself with aloha.

The sandalwood is lightweight and releases a gentle natural scent as you wear it. The pikake buds are carved from mother-of-pearl shell and look like the real thing. Gold-filled (or rose-gold-filled) donut rondelles between the beads give it that little bit of shine without being over the top. This is a beginner-friendly kit — just stringing, no fancy tools needed.

• Donut rondelle beads (5mm gold-filled or 6mm rose gold filled)

Finished size: Designed for ~20" princess length, with extra sandalwood to extend to 22-23" if you want a longer drape.
